Skipton Swimarathon breaks all records
The Skipton Swimarathon has once again rallied the Guernsey community to raise a record-breaking amount of money for charity. 2,500 swimmers’ efforts are set to raise in excess of £80,000.
The great support received means that the two local charities chosen this year as Skipton Swimarathon beneficiaries, Citizens Advice Guernsey and the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation, will receive ample funding for their respective projects. The remainder of the money will be divided between the event organisers, the Lions Club of Guernsey and Guernsey Round Table who will distribute to more local good causes. Since 1977 the Swimarathon has raised nearly £2,000,000 for local charities and is the largest community fundraising event on the island.
The main swimming action took place over a five-day period at Beau Sejour. However, throughout the week, the Swimarathon ‘At Large’ also saw Baubigny High School and Le Murier schools take the plunge in their own 25m pool.
Nick Guillemette, Chairman of the Skipton Swimarathon, said:
“2021’s Skipton Swimarathon has been a huge success. I would like to thank everyone who swam and to all those who supported and sponsored our swimmers. Their great support has ensured that charities in the Bailiwick will benefit.”
He added: “The event is such that anyone can take part and join in the fun. This year was my last at the helm of the organising team, and I am delighted that we have beaten all records raising money for local charities.”
Jim Coupe, Managing Director, Skipton International, said: “The Skipton Swimarathon has had a fantastic year. We are proud to sponsor an event that brings together so many people. It not only raises money for charity but also promotes teamwork and healthy living. We thank everyone who supported this year and hope they are excited to join us again next year.”
A special presentation evening will be held at Beau Sejour on Wednesday 13 October from 6-7pm. Dr. Nicola Brink will present the awards for a number of achievements during the event.
