Skipton Swimarathon celebrates corporate support
The Skipton Swimarathon celebrated the third year of its Corporate Awards last night, recognising the huge contribution businesses have made to this year’s record-breaking total funds raised.
Firms who took part in the community event contributed a staggering 25% to the total of £59,000 collected to date.
The awards presentation took place at Moores Hotel who have supported this year’s main charitable beneficiary, the Cardiac Action Group, by recently installing a Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) outside the hotel on Pollet Street.
Gold Awards were handed out to event sponsors Skipton International along with Grow Limited and Collas Crill, who each raised over £1,500. Sarnia Hotels Group, KPMG and Credit Suisse received Silver Awards for collecting in excess of £1,000 with nine further businesses collecting a Bronze Award for contributing funds over £500.
Nick Guillemette, Chairman of the Skipton Swimarathon Committee, said: “We’ve had a 30% increase from last year in corporate organisations wanting to participate in the Swimarathon, which is really encouraging as we want this to be an all-inclusive event.
“Particular mention should go to Grow Limited who have supported the Corporate Awards since the beginning and who have set a great example of what a small business can achieve, having won a Gold Award on each occasion.”
A cheque of £25,000 was presented to Mike Froome, Community Resuscitation Development Officer for the Cardiac Action Group and the 2019 Swimarathon Ambassador, which will enable the charity to continue free island wide training on the use of PADs for a further year. The charity has installed 60 PADs around Guernsey and thanks to heightened awareness five of these have already been used to resuscitate cardiac arrest victims.
