Community spirit shone brightly at this year’s Skipton Boxing Day Dip, with swimmers braving the chilly waters at Cobo Beach. Whilst online donations continue to be made, early indicators show that the amount raised will be in excess of £10,000 for the Guernsey Cheshire Home.

The much-loved event, marked by festive fancy dress and local camaraderie, brought together individuals, families, and businesses in support of islanders with severe physical disabilities. This included the local branch of the Northern Trust, whose team raised a remarkable £2,100 by donating £100 for every minute they spent in the sea.

Charlotte Dunsterville, Skipton International’s Chief Commercial Officer, expressed her gratitude:

“The enthusiasm and generosity displayed at the Skipton Boxing Day Dip never fails to inspire and this event truly showcases the best of Guernsey. We are proud to support the Guernsey Cheshire Home and extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants, volunteers, and donors who made this event a success.”

Rob Shepherd, Chairman of the Guernsey Cheshire Home, added: “This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we are deeply grateful to Skipton International for their continued sponsorship and to everyone who took part or donated. The funds raised will make a lasting impact, helping us maintain the vital care we provide for our residents and those seeking respite services.”

The Guernsey Cheshire Home relies entirely on fundraising and donations to cover its annual operating costs, offering essential care to individuals living with disabilities such as multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, and permanent paralysis. Events like the Skipton Boxing Day Dip play a crucial role in ensuring the Home can continue its vital work.
