Search begins for next Skipton Swimarathon beneficiary
Applications have opened for projects to benefit from Guernsey’s largest community fund-raising event, the Skipton Swimarathon, which over the last 44 years has raised in excess of £1.8m.
The Guernsey Round Table and Lions Club of Guernsey will be seeking out a worthy beneficiary for this year that will encourage as many swimmers as possible to take to the pool in late September.
Last year the event raised over £70,000 for local charitable causes, including the main beneficiary of the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association. Previous recipients of funds from the Swimarathon have included Autism Guernsey, Grow Limited and The Guernsey Cheshire Home.
Skipton Swimarathon Chairman, Nick Guillemette, said: “Last year’s Swimarathon was a real record breaker. Not only were we one of the few fundraising events that managed to take place but a lot of its success was also due to the worthiness of the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association as our beneficiary as it is a cause that continues to touch many people across the Island. This year we will again be looking to support a project that will benefit the Bailiwick for generations to come and inspire the public to get involved with various fundraising opportunities which the Swimarathon presents.”
Aaron Walden, Commercial Manager, Skipton International said: “This is the 12th year Skipton International has supported the Swimarathon and it has been incredible to witness all the hard work that charities do for islanders and also the benefit that funding from the Swimarathon is able to offer their organisations.
It has been humbling to watch the event grow in size over the years and continue to have such a positive effect on our community.”
Applicants are being asked to complete a Skipton Swimarathon Beneficiary Application Form which can be downloaded from www.swimarathon.org
The charity will be accepting applications for a four-week period with a closing deadline of 28th February.
In addition to supporting the Skipton Swimarathon the Skipton Community Fund also provides support to smaller charitable projects across the Channel Islands.
