Could you create a splash for cash?
The Skipton Swimarathon Committee are currently looking for a new beneficiary for their 2020 event, one which will unite the local community and make them dig deep into their pockets for a good cause.
Guernsey’s largest community fundraiser will be looking to break records once again this year, having topped the £60k mark in 2019 for the first time in support of the Cardiac Action Group. Their goal of saving more lives through the installation and use of defibrillators touched the hearts of the community, with funding allowing them to provide demonstrations and lifesaving resuscitation training for another two years.
Any local charity may apply, with the committee looking for those with an upcoming project that requires financial support and public awareness to be raised.
Nick Guillemette, Chairman of the Skipton Swimarathon, said: “The selection of the right beneficiary is crucial to the success of this event. We want it to be a project that will really make all of Guernsey either take to the pool or want to be involved in some aspect. Whilst it is a swimming event, we try to make it as inclusive as possible, encouraging people from all walks of life to give it a go. As well as a worthy project we would like to partner with a charity that will work hard alongside us to promote their project and the event, inspiring as many as possible to join in with the fun.”
The main beneficiary of the event will receive the majority of funds raised, with the remainder of monies being split between charities chosen by the Lions Club of Guernsey and Guernsey Round Table. Previous recipients have included Le Murier School Village Project, Guille Alles Children’s Library, St. John’s Ambulance and Rescue, and The Guernsey Cheshire Home.
